Barely 72 hours after the Shiite and army clash in Zaria, which led to
loss of lives with many sustaining various degree of injury, soldiers
armed with sophisticated weapons have now barricaded the road leading to
Zaria, searching motorists and commuters to ensure that Shiites did not
infiltrate Zaria.
The soldiers who mounted a checkpoint at Dogarawa village a few
kilometres to Zaria are thoroughly screening motorists entering Zaria.
According to an eyewitness account, the search started taking a heavy
toll on motorists and commuters plying the road around 6 o’clock in the
morning, a situation described by many as tedious and unpleasant in the
wake of the unfolding episode.
As at the time of filing this report, normalcy had returned to Zaria as
many residents chose to remain indoors due to the uncertain nature of
the situation.
However, the chief medical director of Ahmadu Bello University
teaching hospital (ABUTH), Professor lawal Khalid has confirmed the
receipt of 61 dead bodies.
