This will definitely put you off your lunch - Matt Jones was very happy that he and his friend did not bite into their sandwiches after spotting the rodent
Matt Jones was shocked to see a dead rodent in his friend Jay's sandwich as they dined in a Subway in Lincoln City, Oregon.
Jay ordered an Italian Sub from the restaurant. The rodent problem arose when Jay asked for extra spinach in his sandwich.
The employees of the sandwich shop obligingly added the spinach.
This extra spinach came with the surprise addition of the dead rodent. Mr. Jones was horrified and feared that the store's spinach, some of which was used to make his sandwich, may have been contaminated by the animal.

“It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen, but it’s also the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen,” Mr. Jones told KGW, “I laughed because I was like, there is no way this just happened.”
However, health officials said there was very little chance of anyone becoming ill from eating spinach stored in the same container as the leaves added to Jay's sandwich.
“They [health inspectors] consulted with physicians and we followed their advice that, although it is not very appetising, the risk of someone becoming sick due to eating lettuce with those particular circumstances were very low, Cheryl Connell, Director Of Lincoln County Health and Human Services," told the news site.
The county health department turned up straight away to inspect the restaurant, looking for droppings and other dead rodents.
“The investigation determined that the rodent problem did not come from inside the facility. It was probably in a bag of the bagged spinach product, not from the facility itself,” Connell said. “Everything was sanitised and cleaned properly afterwards.”
The two afflicted men received an apology from Subway and a full refund. Matt Jones has also complained to Subway Headquarters so it does not happen again.
