Monkeypox Outbreak: Medics monitor 40 people in Bayelsa, Nigeria

Information reaching  me from the Niger Delta University hospital in Bayelsa State of Nigeria confirms a suspected  cases of Monkeypox Outbreak.
Th Teaching Hospital has already quarantined 13 infected patients, among who are three adults and one child.
Authorities within the hospital confirms working with the Nigerian Center for Disease Control, an Abuja based centre for the control of communicable diseases run by the central government. A team of medics was dispatched to Bayelsa to contain spread of the suspected Monkepox Infection.
The were currently monitoring more than 40 people in Bayelsa who had had contact with the quarantined patients, but none had so far shown any symptoms, he added.
A statement has been issued allay fears on the Monkeypox Outbreak, urging members of the public not to panic.
His hospital and staff are well trained and adequately prepared for a scenario like this, the statememt reads.

This is th first known Monkeypox Outbreak in Nigeria however, there have been incidents of Monkeypox Outbreak elsewhere in Africa.

According to World Health organisation, monkeypox occurs primarily in remote parts of Central and West Africa that “can cause a fatal illness in humans and although it is similar to human smallpox which has been eradicated, it is much milder.
