CIA director John Brennan says there may be more attacks to come.
Brennan said that he did not consider Friday's attacks in Paris to be 'a
one-off event.' And he called the well-coordinated attacks in Paris a
sign of a maturing 'external operations agenda' by the extremist group
ISIL.
"I would anticipate that this is not the only operation that ISIL has
in the pipeline. Security intelligence services right now in Europe and
other places are working feverishly to see what they can do in terms of
uncovering it," Brennan said.
Brennan's remarks came the same day as reports surfaced of a new ISIL
video, which claimed that the group planned to "strike America at its
center in Washington", and that other countries who had participated in
counter-ISIL strikes would also be the group's targets. The U.S.
Department of Homeland Security said it has not received information
indicating a potential attack. But security measures were stepped up in
subways, airports and on Capitol Hill.
On Monday, Prime Minister David Cameron said Britain will boost its
intelligence agency staff by 15 percent and more than double spending on
aviation security to counter the increasing threat from ISIL.
