Pyotr Pavlensky, a famous Russian performance
artist currently on trial for setting fire to a door of the Federal
Security Service (FSB) office building, demanded the court amend
the charge — which is currently vandalism — to terrorism, Mediazona news
website reported Tuesday.
"I demand to become a suspect [in the case of] terrorism. I believe that's the logic of your system. Until you fulfill my demand, I refuse to comply with the court rituals," he was cited by Mediazona as saying.
Pavlensky was detained by police officers at 3 a.m near the FSB building on Lubyanskaya Ploshchad. He used a canister of gasoline and a lighter to set the doorway alight.
